The Retail Forum – Food - Quality - Value

In 2011, the Federal Association of the German Retail Grocery Trade (BVL) once again presented current innovative topics and projects from the food industry at Anuga.

In line with the slogan of "Food – Quality – Value", the event showcased three leading quality assurance initiatives for food: GlobalGAP, IFS and OrgaInvent. In cooperation with the Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel, the BVL presented ways in which excess food can be sensibly used. In collaboration with GS1 Germany GmbH, it also demonstrated how the mobile Internet ensures transparency in the production, origins and composition of food. The Federal College of the Food Trade (Bundesfachschule des Lebensmittelhandels) in Neuwied was presented at the BVL stand as an example for the basic and advanced training being offered by the trade.

In cooperation with the EHI Retail Institute, the BVL also took part in the Retail Forum, where it presented the latest figures on damage and spoilage in the German food trade. In view of the current debate regarding the waste of food, the presentation helped making the statistical basis more objective. At the moment, there were only estimates regarding the amount of food that is left unused. At Anuga 2011, this lack of information was remedied for the retail trade.
