Traders presented innovative concepts for food safety and healthy nutrition. Trading companies and their sector organisations presented innovative concepts for improving food quality and safety. Also on display here was pilot projects for further enhancing transparency when it comes to food production and distribution. Taking part in the Trade Innovation Show are sector organisations including FoodPlus/EurepGAP, GS1 Germany, QS Qualität und Sicherheit and Transparent Goods.
The show was organised and staged by the Federal Association of the German Retail Grocery Trade (BVL) in close cooperation with Koelnmesse. Support was provided by trading companies such as Edeka Zentrale and the Rewe Group, and by the Federation of German Retailers (HDE). The Trade Innovation Show took place in the spacious new Boulevard, the central route that connects the halls at the new Cologne exhibition centre. Various applications were presented in a setting designed to resemble a modern supermarket, while representatives of sector associations and trading companies are invited to attend discussions and other events in a special lounge. Here, the focus will be on current issues such as food labelling and strategies for preventing and tackling crises. Case studies of sector services for promoting healthy nutrition will also be presented.
In addition, the Trade Innovation Show offered an insight into new approaches for offering consumers more information and greater transparency in the future with regard to products, their ingredients and their origins. These include databases that provide detailed information on ingredients and additives, or on the production methods used for individual products. The show will also present modern quality assurance technologies along the entire supply chain, such as the use of radio frequency technology for temperature monitoring.
