The Cruise Lines Are Coming to Anuga - Learn how to become a supplier to the Cruise Line Industry

The Cruise Lines International Association, CLIA, announced today that it will be presenting a one-day conference program at this year’s Anuga in Cologne, Germany.  Approximately 20 cruise line executives who support the procurement and purchasing of food & beverage products for their respective cruise line brands will be in attendance.

Cruise Industry Experiencing Dramatic Growth
CLIA estimates that 30 million passengers will set sail on a cruise in 2019.  There are more than 100 new cruise ships currently on order and being built by the world’s cruise corporations and which will be deployed over the next eight years.  The new cruise vessel capacity will contain more than 800,000 guest rooms across the cruise lines by the year 2026.

Need for Innovative New Products and Solutions for Supply Chain Efficiencies
The world’s cruise lines need to stay ahead of food & beverage innovations and trends so that they may continue to drive positive satisfaction for their passenger guests. In addition, the increased number of vessels traversing the world’s waterways means that the logistics support for provisioning these ships becomes more challenging. “The cruise line’s food & beverage supply chain is very complex.”  Said Richard Regan, Director of Partner Relations at CLIA.  “Vendors who supply the cruise lines must have proven logistical capabilities for provisioning the ships at the ports which they call on throughout the world.”

Interactive Educational Program Advises Food & Beverage Stakeholders on How to Become a Supplier
The two audience interactive conference sessions presented by CLIA will advise the audience members about what is required for a food or beverage company to become a supplier to the industry. Speakers include senior procurement specialists and buyers from the largest cruise lines in the industry including, Carnival Corporation & plc, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., Silversea.

There will be ample opportunities for networking with cruise line buyers and procurement specialists during a planned luncheon and drinks reception which will follow the day’s conference.

100 years of Anuga

In 2019, Anuga is celebrating its 100th anniversary - a remarkable sign of its long-term support of the industry. The first Anuga took place in Stuttgart in 1919 with the participation of around 200 German firms. Based on the concept of an annual touring exhibition, further events of the General Food and Luxury Exhibition were staged, among others in Munich in 1920, in Berlin in 1922 and in Cologne in 1924. With around 360 exhibitors and 40,000 visitors, the first Anuga in Cologne was the best event since its inception, which is why the organisers opted for Cologne as the permanent location. In 1951, for the first time over 1,200 exhibitors from 34 countries took part, whereby Anuga ultimately established itself as the central international business platform for the food industry in Cologne scheduled every two years. Over the course of time, due to the staging of leading trade fairs such as ISM and Anuga FoodTec, the trade fair advanced from being a food and processing platform into becoming a trade fair purely for food and beverages. In 2003, the Anuga "10 trade shows under one roof" concept was implemented. Today, with 7,405 exhibitors and around 165,000 trade visitors from the trade and out-of-home market, Anuga has developed into the leading global trade fair for food and beverages.
