The German-Kenyan company LIMBUA is presenting its dried organic mango at ANUGA 2025 – grown by smallholder farmers in Kenya, processed directly in the growing region, and 100% transparently traceable. LIMBUA works with over 9,000 certified smallholder farming families and employs more than 900 staff members at its production sites at the foot of Mount Kenya – primarily young people and women from the surrounding rural communities.
With over 15 years of experience as a global leader in organic macadamia nuts, LIMBUA has successfully expanded its range with another in-house product: dried organic mango – organically grown, locally processed, and ready for the international market.
Fair Opportunities for Farmers: Mango as an Additional Source of Income
The mangoes come from the same certified mixed farms that already supply LIMBUA with macadamia nuts and avocados. By introducing dried mango as a third crop, LIMBUA provides farming families with an additional income stream and strengthens economic resilience in the region. The farmers receive prices above market level and are regularly trained by LIMBUA’s agricultural experts.
Mixed farming systems combine multiple crops on a single plot – an approach that not only enhances soil fertility, but also naturally reduces pest pressure, prevents erosion, and improves resilience to climate variability.
Digital Processes and Local Processing Ensure Quality and Transparency
Mango harvesting takes place between November and March. The fruit is handpicked only at optimal ripeness, with trained harvest workers from the region ensuring high quality and gentle handling.
Procurement is carried out directly on the farms by LIMBUA’s purchasing teams. Thanks to a fully digital system – including biometric fingerprint identification – all mangoes are 100% traceable, even after processing and export. Farmers are paid instantly and securely via M-Pesa mobile payment, giving them direct and immediate access to their income.
On the same day as harvesting, the fruit is delivered to nearby processing facilities. There, the mangoes are peeled, sliced, and pitted – mostly by hand – and then gently air-dried without added sugar or sulfur.
Sustainable – Social – Certified Organic
With dried organic mango, LIMBUA continues its model of sustainable value creation at origin. Local processing generates jobs in rural areas, especially for women and young professionals, helps improve living conditions, and contributes to curbing rural exodus.
The result: natural, aromatic mango strips or pieces, free from added sugar, sulfur, GMOs, and pesticides. The Tommy and Kent varieties are available in bulk packaging from 8 kg upwards for both retail and industrial use – certified under EU Organic, USDA Organic (NOP), BRC, Bio Suisse, Demeter, Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC), Naturland, Fair-for-Life, and Rainforest Alliance.
