Estover Piimatööstus OÜ, one of Estonia’s leading dairy producers, has not only built a reputation on quality and innovation but is also setting an example in sustainable food manufacturing. With over 30 years of experience in the dairy industry, Estover is taking bold steps to reduce its environmental footprint by investing heavily in green energy solutions.
Biogas and Solar Power at the Heart of Production
In 2022, Estover completed a significant milestone in its journey toward sustainability by launching a state-of-the-art biogas plant next to its production facility. This facility collects and treats all wastewater and whey residues generated during dairy production. Instead of treating these byproducts as waste, Estover turns them into a valuable resource—biogas.
This biogas is then used to generate both electricity and heat, ensuring that production remains efficient and environmentally responsible. Alongside biogas, Estover also operates solar parks near the factory that produce around 850 kWh of electricity, contributing further to its goal of energy independence.
Thanks to these combined efforts, Estover's production now runs almost entirely on self-produced energy. The biogas plant alone contributes 1,600 kWh of energy, powering core operations and significantly lowering reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
A Clear Vision for a Sustainable Future
Estover's vision is to be a truly environmentally friendly and sustainable dairy company. This means investing in energy-efficient technologies, utilizing renewable resources, and continuously seeking innovative ways to reduce environmental impact.
By revaluing milk from start to finish and treating byproducts as opportunities rather than waste, Estover Piimatööstus is creating a circular and efficient production cycle—one that benefits both the company and the planet.
More Than Just Dairy
While Estover is known for its high-quality cheeses, ricotta, processed cheese, and cream cheese products, the company’s green practices show that dairy production and sustainability can go hand in hand. As global demand for responsible food production grows, Estover’s dedication to green energy makes it a shining example for the entire food industry.
