Important quality criteria of rice are its geographical origin and variety. With special high-tech methods developed in-house Eurofins identifies high quality rice varieties and verifies the authenticity of over 150 rice varieties from 13 countries, among these specialties like Basmati, Jasmine, Sushi rice and others. The geographical origin is verified or refuted by stable isotope analysis. This is relevant for Protected Geographical Indications, which apply for example for Thai Jasmine or Camargue rice.
Eurofins offers a comprehensive analysis program for checking authenticity and risks in relation to food safety and has a technological edge, especially with rice, by developing new, innovative methods, published in 7 peer reviewed scientific articles.
In addition to analysis and as a special service for the importers, Eurofins offers inspections and loading controls of the goods as well as supplier audits in the most important countries of origin (South and Southeast Asia, the Americas and Southern Europe) to ensure that the goods comply with food legislation upon arrival in Europe. We are also happy to advise you with regard to chances and risks involved in importing rice from the various regions.
Also during this ANUGA we organise our meanwhile 5th Eurofins International Rice Conference. Feel free to contact us, if you would like to participate!
