Halal and Kosher as Growth Drivers

Anuga Key Topics, Halal

Halal and Kosher have long been more than religious standards. According to Innova Market Insights, the Anuga knowledge partner, they have evolved into global quality markers: instilling trust and providing consumers with clear guidance. At Anuga, it becomes evident that companies strategically leveraging these certifications not only tap into current food trends but also strengthen their brand positioning.

In the last years, F&B innovation with a halal claim showed a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of +8% (Global, 2020-2024).

The table below shows the top market categories as a percentage (%) of overall F&B launches tracked as “halal”:

Top category % share (global, 2024)
Bakery 15%
Sauces & seasonings 13%
Snacks 11%
Dairy 9%
Confectionery 9%

From Niche to Global Trend

Halal products are growing worldwide and are no longer merely regionally relevant. Eight per cent of all new product launches between July 2024 and June 2025 carry a Halal certification, and with a growth rate of 11% CAGR since 2020, the segment demonstrates strong momentum. Most launches still originate from Asia and the Middle East, yet Latin America (+56% CAGR) and North America (+43% CAGR) are rapidly catching up. In terms of product categories, bakery leads with a 12% share, while meat alternatives (+22% CAGR) and soups (+12% CAGR) are among the fastest-growing segments, signalling that Halal is increasingly becoming part of contemporary eating habits.

Kosher products are also evolving dynamically. North America remains the most important market, accounting for 54% of launches, yet globally Kosher is growing steadily at 6% CAGR since 2020, while the Middle East & Africa (+29% CAGR) are emerging as new growth regions. Traditional categories such as bakery and sauces & seasonings together represent around 30% of all Kosher launches. At the same time, new growth areas are emerging, including alcoholic beverages (+20% CAGR) and meat alternatives (+14% CAGR), demonstrating that Kosher today is far more than a religious label.

Quality, Transparency and Trust

For consumers, Halal and Kosher certifications are far more than simple labels. According to the Innova Lifestyle & Attitude Survey, 18% of consumers report feeling particularly confident when purchasing certified products. Halal and Kosher therefore stand for quality, transparency, and trust – and their appeal extends well beyond their traditional target groups.

Overall, these developments show that Halal and Kosher are now global trendsetters. They open up markets, align with current food trends, and strengthen brands in a sustainable way. At Anuga, it becomes clear that companies using these certifications strategically are not merely positioning themselves in niche markets, but at the very heart of the global food market of tomorrow.
