About Dr. Alexander Gerber
Dr. Alexander Gerber. After an agricultural apprenticeship on a Demeter farm, he studied agricultural sciences at the University of Hohenheim and did his doctorate at the Institute for Social Sciences of Agriculture. From 1998 to 2002 he was managing director of the "Modellvorhaben Kulturlandschaft Hohenlohe" and did pioneering work for the methodological development of transdisciplinary environmental research. As coordinator for organic agriculture and consumer protection at the University of Hohenheim, he designed the first cross-value-chain and English-language Master's programme on organic food management. From 2003 onwards, he helped to establish the umbrella organisation of the German organic sector "Bund Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft" (BÖLW), for which he worked as managing director until 2013 and was a board member from 2018 to 2022. He has been a full-time board member of Demeter Germany since 2013 and Vice President of Demeter International since 2014.
